Controlled Tightening

OUR SERVICES

Controlled Tightening

Controlled tightening is the activity intended to ensure that the coupling between two mechanical parts is achieved by means of a bolted joint closed according to the specifications defined by the relevant Norms and Regulations, by the customer or the equipment manufacturer Specs.

In fluid production, processing, storage and transport plants, are present bolted flange joints with interposed gaskets, which connect equipment, lines, tanks or assemblies to each other. The flanged joint, compared to a welded joint, offers obvious advantages in the prefabrication phase of components or plant sections; moreover, inspections are easier, maintenance and replacement of components are faster.

However, each flange joint is a potential source of danger if it is not maintained methodically and competently.

Too many accidents and near misses occur every year as a result of leaks from flange joints, which causes could be, for example, insufficient specific knowledge of maintenance activities, underestimation of risks in the event of a leak and inadequate application of operating instructions.

Tightening with torque wrench

The use of a hydraulic torque wrench is a reliable and simple solution for tightening flange joints. The ability to monitor and control tightening torque allows you to precisely apply the desired load to your bolts, guaranteeing an approximation of ±10%.

Controlled tightening with hydraulic tensioners

This type of activity is a tightening with greater precision since the force applied has no friction or torsional stress so as to ensure a more precise work (±5%)

Bolted joints are undoubtedly the most common coupling systems in mechanics.

It is known that among the different causes of failures (including overload, design errors, manufacturing defects, etc.), the most common one is the poor quality of the assembly procedures.

Therefore, optimally controlling the tightening force and the grade of precision with which it is obtained, is essential in order to ensure the required performance of the bolt joint. The ideal solution is hydraulic tensioning.

Hydraulic tensioning by stud extension allows to develop a considerable tension force to tighten bolts without torsional stress or friction, but with great precision and a very high degree of repeatability.
